Enemy of the Heart
High cholesterol is one of those hidden risk factors that make heart disease such a sneaky killer. Even in people who look and feel well, this waxy, fatlike substance can build up in arteries like silent snow, often going unnoticed until serious damage is done.
Just as snow can paralyze a road system, too much cholesterol can hinder the movement of blood in the body. Life goes on, provided the heart keeps blood moving. But if the flow becomes restricted, a person who thinks he has the world by the tail suddenly can feel like there's an elephant sitting on his chest.
Cholesterol comes from two sources. Your liver and the food that you eat. You can have a strict diet and exercise program and still have high cholesterol because of the cholesterol produced by your own body. That is why statin drugs are so efficient, they inhibit the liver's ability to produce cholesterol. Statin drugs however, have their own unique problems. They can cause liver damage (that's why your need to continually monitor your liver while taking statin drugs), chest pains, muscle aches, kidney damage and a whole host of other adverse side effects. No one knows what problems may result from long term use of statin durgs.
There are several natural products that seem to help lower cholesterol such as soy, olive oil, and oat bran. Lately I have become aware of another product, IMU-STAT that is gaining interest in the scientific community, derived from natural plant saponins. These saponins are bile acid sequestrants that bind the cholesterol molecules in the intestines, forcing them to be eliminated before they could be absorbed into the bloodstream. They are also non-systemic, meaning they do not enter the rest of the body, but do all their work within the intestinal tract. There is no contact with other organs, unlike statin drugs that enter the bloodstream and can cause severe damage to vital organs.
If you have high cholesterol or know someone who does, this may be worth taking a look . . . .
